It was announced yesterday that the new My Charity Commission Account will go live on 31st July 2023.
Most charities’ named contacts have already been invited to join the service. Next all individual trustees will be invited to join. This is a significant change – charities will no longer be able to file their annual returns outside the My Charity Commission account.
Any charities which are part way through their annual returns have been asked to complete them by tomorrow (28th) but we would also recommend any outstanding filing to be done this week in case of any teething issues.
Orlando Fraser in a speech to the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales in January 2023 said “I have every confidence that the service will prove a ‘game changer’ in our relationship with individual trustees. Helping them understand what is expected, supporting them to meet their responsibilities, preventing problems from arising in the first place.”
In time the Account will be a one stop shop guiding each trustee through their charitable obligations. Nick Baker, the Commission’s Chief Operating Officer said:
“There is a lot of work still for us to do before we meet our long-term ambition for a new, direct form of online communication between the Commission and each and every charity trustee. But the end of this month marks an important milestone in the development of My Charity Commission Account, enabling charities to access the new service for the first time. I call on all charities to act quickly when they receive an onboarding invitation from the Commission.”
