Later this year the CQC will be rolling out its new Single Assessment Framework which includes a quality statement on environmental sustainability. Inspectors will be looking at how providers of health and care services have made efforts to become more environmentally sustainable.
The environmental sustainability quality statement, under well-led, will look at any negative impact of providers’ activities on the environment, how they are acting to reduce it and supporting people to do the same. This relates to Regulation 17 – Good governance.
In addition to this, climate change adaptation will be assessed in the quality statement ‘Safe environments’ and within ‘Governance, management and sustainability’. Within these quality statements steps taken to adapt to the effects of climate change will be looked at, such as adverse weather plans.
Take the survey by 1 August
To help shape the regulator’s work around assessing environmental sustainability, CQC would like to hear from health and care providers. They would like providers to share their understanding and experience of incorporating sustainability into their work.
