3 July 2024 Blog ASA looks at implied health claims for food supplement and doctor testimonials The ASA ruled that ads for food supplements claiming to treat joint problems breached the CAP Code as they contained misleading and unlawful health claims. It did not matter that the ads did not attribute the claims to a specific product as the ads linked to the website where the food supplement was sold. Furthermore, the alleged testimonials from a ‘leading’ doctor breached the CAP Code as health claims referring to the recommendation of an individual health professional are not acceptable in marketing communications for food including supplements.
