When received, the donation from international investment company, SOVICO Group, will have a transformative impact on Linacre College, including creating a new graduate centre with improved student facilities. After previously being one of the least well-endowed colleges at the University of Oxford, Linacre’s general endowment fund will also hugely benefit from this donation and support with the general daily running costs.
Linacre, a constituent college of the University of Oxford comprising of a student community from across more than 80 nations, also hopes to endow graduate access scholarships for students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
Strongly committed to reducing its impact on the environment with many in the college's community studying or researching environmental issues, Linacre College is a leader amongst Oxford institutions in environmental innovation. These values run in line with the SOVICO Group which has also committed to all its subsidiaries reaching net zero carbon by the end of 2050, with input from leading Oxford academics.
Mills & Reeve advised on the donation agreement set to transform the facilities in the college.
Neil Burton, partner at Mills & Reeve said: “We are really pleased to have supported in such an important donation to Linacre College. The donation will be critical to the growth of the college and we all look forward to seeing the positive impact this investment makes to Linacre’s students.”
