Known as the ‘student social services project 2020’, the revamp includes its Brodsky Restaurant, the Café and Concert Bar and the first-floor student deck. The college is a long-standing client of the firm which advised on the £4.5m redevelopment of its state-of-the-art main theatre.
Mills & Reeve has a strong presence in the Manchester arts sector. The team celebrated the recent reopening of the £4.3m redevelopment of the Hallé’s orchestra’s rehearsal, performance and event space in Ancoats. They advised the Manchester orchestra on the project which includes a café and kitchen, large new rehearsal space, education workshop facilities, individual practice spaces, and improved facilities for the Hallé’s musicians and choirs.
The team is also advising the Contact Theatre on Manchester’s Oxford Road on its £6.8m refurbishment and extension. The refurbishment and three-storey extension include new performance spaces, a recording studio, offices, a café, and an arts and health development space. It is due to reopen in Spring 2020.
Catherine Kay, head of construction in Manchester, said: “We have been advising Manchester’s premier universities and arts venues for many years and are pleased to be, once again, appointed by the Royal Northern College of Music on its latest project. The city’s fantastic arts scene is internationally renowned and the revamp of the Hallé orchestra’s rehearsal and performance space and the Contact Theatre redevelopment will further cement Manchester’s reputation on the global stage.”
