Major lateral hire sees respected environmental partner join Mills & Reeve

Mills & Reeve appoints Claire Gregory as partner to expand environment team.

Claire advises on contentious and non-contentious environmental and energy matters and has a wealth of experience in areas such as contaminated land, landfill, waste and water, brownfield development, environmental permitting, energy regulation, chemicals regulation, site decommissioning and development.

She acts for both private and public sector clients and has specialist expertise in the waste sector. She regularly represents companies, directors, and managers in regulatory investigations including crisis management, interviews under caution and court proceedings, as well as judicial reviews and appeals of environmental permits and regulators’ decisions. Claire joins from Pinsent Masons where she was a legal director. She was previously the head of environment and regulatory at Brabners.

Claire, who is ranked Band 1 in respected legal directory Chambers and Partners UK, will join fellow Band 1 environmental lawyer Keith Davidson who specialises in transactions and brownfield projects. Clients have described Claire as “a brilliant lawyer – she gets up to speed on the issues very quickly and you know she will deliver with a sense of urgency” and “an outstanding lawyer who has taken us from a catastrophic position to an excellent one”.

With both contentious and non-contentious expertise, Claire will dovetail with the existing regulatory disputes team to help provide a complete safety, health and environment service to the firm’s national client base. Duncan Astill, who leads the regulatory, public and commercial disputes national service line, said: “We’re delighted that we can bolster our existing specialist practice area with someone with such an impressive level of expertise and experience.”
