Mills & Reeve raise over £20k for cancer charity

The challenge was in aid of Bloodwise, which funds world-class research into all types of blood cancer and supports anyone suffering from or worried about blood cancer with expert information and advice. The challenge and choice of charity was especially poignant as last year we were saddened when their colleague Jon Nixon, a principal associate in the Birmingham office, passed away from lymphoma, a form of blood cancer. In a fitting tribute, the teams have so far managed to raise £21,230, with more donations expected. 

Justin Ripman, senior partner who took part in the challenge, said: “We were devastated by Jon’s death last year, he was a much loved and well respected friend and colleague to many. It is hugely satisfying, therefore, that we have been able to pay such a fitting tribute to Jon and his family. The weekend was a fantastic example of our culture that we are so proud of at Mills & Reeve, with staff from across all offices, teams and at all levels getting together to achieve such an amazing result. We are all so pleased to have raised so much money for Bloodwise, and it certainly sets a high bar for next year’s challenge!” 

The charity challenge takes place annually and this year teams took on a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, abseiling, caving and gorge walking. They trekked over 10km across the high peaks, scrabbling through moorland and bogs, before abseiling down a rock face, then splashing their way through gorges. Some of the teams even braved the caves, squeezing through tight spaces and under waterfalls.
