This new partnership will transform pathology services and help to improve the quality of patient care across South East London.
Over the next 15 years SYNLAB, Europe’s leading medical diagnostic services provider, will work in collaboration with Guy’s and St Thomas’, and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts to deliver and transform pathology services for hospitals, GPs, community services and other NHS healthcare providers.
Mills & Reeve advised SYNLAB on the deal from its initial bid as part of the procurement process run by Guy’s and King’s back in 2018, throughout months of competitive dialogue meetings and in finalising their BAFO (best and final offer response) leading to them being appointed the preferred partner for this new joint venture. Mills & Reeve advised and helped SYNLAB negotiate a suite of pathology and laboratory services agreements as well as the lease for a new state-of-the-art pathology hub laboratory.
Calling on the knowledge gained through its existing and highly successful NHS partnerships, SYNLAB will implement a ‘hub and spoke’ pathology model, using its new pathology laboratory to offer faster, more consistent and higher-quality testing services to help speed up diagnosis and clinical decision making. This will enable more people to be cared for in the community and support better management of patient flows within hospitals.
Rhian Vandrill, partner at Mills & Reeve said: “This has taken the best part of two and a half years of work. The new joint venture has simultaneously completed on a lease of a state of the art new pathology hub laboratory, which will form a critical part of the delivery of the Trusts’ pathology services as well as those of South East London hospitals, GP practices, community services providers, clinics and other healthcare organisations.”
“Thanks to the whole team for their work and we look forward to seeing all that this partnership will achieve for SYNLAB.”
