Self-drive to survive: motorsport as a testbed for AI driving tools
This article summarises the 2024 AR2L autonomous vehicle motorsport race, and likens developments in AI self-driving technologies to the push for renewable and sustainable fuel/energy sources in motorsport (Formula 1, Formula E, Le Mans). Referencing technological developments such as hybrid engines, electric vehicles, hydrogen power and the R&D being conducted at manufacturers such as Tesla, Toyota and Williams Racing as example cases to indicate how sporting competition can drive innovation and safety for self-driving cars.
