What can Matthew do for you?
Matthew is a specialist in banking and finance law, with a particular emphasis on the not-for-profit sector. He advises lenders and borrowers on all aspects of debt finance. In recent years, Matthew has been at the forefront of advising not-for-profit entities on public bond issues, private placements and traditional bank facilities.
Supporting your ambitions
Matthew recently advised the University of Cambridge on its £600m public bond issue. Although the University had issued £350m of bonds in 2012 (on which Mills & Reeve also advised), we were advising an entirely new team at the University, none of the senior members of which were involved in the original transaction. Working closely with the Interim Head of Legal, Director of Finance and Chief Operating Officer, we were able to guide the University through the prospectus disclosure and authorisation process, at a time when an entirely new regulatory framework was being introduced for UK higher education.
What do others say?
Matthew recently advised the University of Sussex on its £100m private placement. The Director of Finance said: "thanks for your unstinting support over the transaction. I have always felt the benefit of your experience and cool and thorough counsel through the process which has been reassuring and positive throughout."
What else should you know?
Matthew speaks fluent French and was recently seconded to FIDAL, the largest law firm in France and our preferred supplier of French legal services.
