Climate Contract Playbook and Renewable Energy

The Chancery Lane Project produces draft clauses to include in contracts which address solutions to climate change as part of the energy transition to reach Net Zero.  Each clause is named after a child to signify the intention of these clauses to protect the planet for future generations.

The Chancery Lane Project has recently published two new clauses focused on renewable energy:

• Ayshe’s Clause which is drafted for use in renewable energy technology supply chain agreements to oblige suppliers to reduce emissions through the use of a carbon budget (which as drafted includes scope 3 emissions) as well as to safeguard against modern slavery.
• Viola’s Clause which can be inserted into a range of supply agreements requiring the contractor to procure either its energy (or a set proportion of it) or the energy used for the project (or a set proportion of it) from renewable sources
