Mills & Reeve bolsters its corporate restructuring offering in London with major lateral hire

Leading national law firm Mills & Reeve appoints new corporate restructuring partner Neil Smyth.

Corporate restructuring specialist Neil Smyth has joined Mills & Reeve from Taylor Wessing. Neil specialises in all forms of corporate recovery matters, including corporate restructuring, acting for lenders, venture capitalists, private equity, distressed debt purchasers, specialist solution teams and insolvency practitioners.

His work has included advising KPMG on the pre-pack sale of the business and assets of Worldstores to the Dunelm group; acting on the purchase of the Dutch and German parts of the Ben Sherman fashion brand; and acting for the liquidators of LOCOG, the organising committee for the 2012 London Olympics. He has over two decades of experience advising clients in the London restructuring market.

Neil will join Mills & Reeve’s London office to further develop the firm’s mid-market restructuring and insolvency work notably in the technology and real estate sectors.

Jamie Wheatley, partner and head of Mills & Reeve’s restructuring and insolvency group, said: “Neil is a very highly regarded practitioner and a fantastic addition to the team. He has deep experience of mid-market restructuring and insolvency work in London, and beyond. His reputation, experience and knowledge of restructuring, especially in the technology and real estate sectors, will complement the corporate, finance and insolvency work we already do for venture capitalists, lenders, corporates and insolvency practitioner clients in these sectors.”

Neil Smyth said, “I am delighted to be joining Mills & Reeve. The firm offers a first class platform from which to launch a leading mid-market restructuring practice in London. With the support of the existing restructuring expertise through the network of national offices servicing top quality clients, particularly in the technology and real estate sectors, this is a very exciting opportunity and one which I am sure clients will welcome.”
